Eliminate ignorance to avoid conflict
Ignorance is sometimes a negative term used to describe a poverty of consciousness. However, when we discover our ignorance, it also means that we have the opportunity to grow. Ignorance is the original state of human beings. We are born knowing nothing, so we are full of curiosity to explore the world. As we grow older, we think we already know enough and give up many opportunities to learn. This complacency means we remain ignorant.
What we think we know is actually an ever-changing illusion and therefore cannot form a reliable basis for thinking. For example, when someone asks us who we are, we can only tell him our name and occupation. The reason for this answer is that we actually don’t know who we are and why we came to this world. However, this prevents others from seeing our true colors.
Ignorance is like living in a dream. What we know about ourselves and others in dreams is unreal. Because of ignorance, we mistake our desires for real needs. We also don’t know whether these desires can be satisfied, so we pursue more wealth and power. Greed arising from ignorance, as well as discrimination and prejudice against others, are the main factors causing conflicts in interpersonal relationships.
If we can admit our ignorance and remain curious like children, we can learn from everything and have lasting joy. This joy comes from our understanding of the world and our true self-consciousness. We know that as higher-order creatures in nature, we shoulder the mission of exploring and constructing the universe. What makes us even more gratified is that nature has never put us into difficult situations that we cannot escape.
When we realize that all things in nature are endless and the resources required for the development of life are inexhaustible, we can let go of our attachment to material wealth. Through a broader worldview, we will also better understand our true interests and goals, establish mutually respectful and promoting relationships with others, and face the world with an equal, friendly and positive attitude.
It can be seen that eliminating ignorance, like eliminating illiteracy, can make it easier for us to get along with others, resolve conflicts, and avoid fights. In the process of exploring nature, we can also better protect the environment and live a healthier life.
However, to eliminate ignorance, we must give up complacency and develop a deeper understanding of our own and other people's needs, habits, and feelings. Emphasize each other's similarities and appreciate each other's differences. When we have an open mind, relationships between people will become harmonious, and everyone can develop in a safe and stable environment.
